Ruth Horsley

Ruth Horsley, 87, passed away in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado, on March 31, 2022. She was born on September 5, 1934, in Brigham City, Utah. She was the fifth of five children born to Moroni Scott and Mary Alean Ricks Johnson.
She grew up in Brigham City going to Central Elementary, Box Elder Junior High School, and Box Elder High School.
After High School she eventually worked at the American Sportswear Company sewing coats.
In 1957, she was called to go to Mexico on a full-time Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years.
In 1961, she met Preston Horsley, and a year later they were married in the Logan Utah Temple.
After they married, they moved to Daly City, California, where Preston had a job with the Union Pacific Railroad. During that time Ruth worked at an Insurance Company in San Francisco, CA.
In 1967, her son Richard John Horsley was born. During this time, she couldn't drive so she wrote stories.
In 1969, they moved back to Utah, first in Sugar House and then in the West Valley City area (Granger).
In 1973, Thomas Ricks Horsley was born. Preston and Ruth raised their two boys in West Valley. While there Ruth had many jobs in the Church. She served in the Sunday School, MIA, Primary, and Relief Society, both in the Ward and Stake. She also had the opportunity to be a hostess at the Relief Society Building, at Temple Square, in Salt Lake City, UT.
In 1992, they moved to Brigham City, UT, where she became reacquainted with old friends and made new ones.
In April of 2015, because of health issues, Ruth and Preston went to live with their son, Tom, in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado. In June of 2015 Preston passed away.
After Preston passed away Ruth continued to live with Tom and his family until her health required her to spend some time in an assisted living facility in Kremmling, Colorado.
Ruth is survived by her two sons: John Horsley and Tom Horsley; one sister-in-law: Judy Johnson; four grandchildren: Heather Horsley, Joshua Horsley, Jacob Horsley, and Ellie Horsley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and all her siblings: Mary Jane Waters and husband Alvin, Mable Lu Waters and husband LaMar, Delbert Johnson, Mildred Josephine Barfuss and husband Louis.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Brigham City 5th Ward, 420 South 800 West, Brigham City, UT. A Viewing will be held the night before on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, UT. Interment will be at the Willard City Cemetery.
