Ruth Jenkins Obituary

Visit the Thompson Harveson & Cole Funeral Home & Crematory website to view the full obituary.

Ruth Helen Couch Jenkins was born June 10, 1923 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to parents, Levi and Maria (Zirbel) Couch and passed away October 2, 2025.

Ruth grew up in Poteau, OK. She later moved to Texas, where she met her husband, Henry Malcolm Jenkins, Jr. Ruth and Henry were among the original homeowners in Richland Hills, Texas; together they built their first and only home on Scruggs Park Drive in 1950. They had 5 children: Lois Jenkins, Goldie Rosner (Frank), John Jenkins, Sandra Sutton (Rod) and Carol McCluer (Charley).

Ruth enjoyed being active in her children’s activities. She was Girl Scout Leader, Camp Fire Girl Leader (she truly loved and cherished the girls in her Clubs), (Ruth delighted in telling the story of running into one of her “girls” up on Foul Weather Point in Oregan), Camp Fire Day Camp Director and PTA volunteer at Richland Elementary. Ruth was a member of Richland Hills Baptist Church and was active in her Sunday School Class, “The 39ers.” After the passing of Henry in 1973, Ruth got a job at the Airport Hotel gift shop at DFW Airport. She loved to tell stories of the people she met while at work in the gift shop. Ruth also enjoyed going to the horse races in Hot Springs with her sister and brother-in-law, Robbie and Kenneth.

Living to be 102, she was preceded in death by many of her loved ones including her parents; her siblings, Irene Percifield, Othel Couch and Robbie Jean Gaither; her husband; her first born child who died several days after birth, Mary Margaret; a grandson, Clint Rosner; Henry’s siblings and three of her beloved nephews, Eddie, Mac and Chris Letscher.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Stephen Sutton (Sarah) and their children Grace, Charlotte and Austin; Andrea Sutton Morgan (Trent) and Lorelei and Bryce; Joshua Sutton and his children Levi and Lucy; Cami McCluer Gildner (Gus), and their children James, Myra Cate and Anders; Maddie McCluer Dickerson (Joe), and children Carter Faye and Charlotte Jean; Lisa Rosner (Clint’s widow) and their children Lindsey and Carson.  This is the group who came to look forward to celebrating Grandma Ruth's birthday each year in June.  So many good times!  She is also survived by nephew Jon Letcher (Barbara) of New York, and several beloved nieces and nephews in Oklahoma.

The family extends heart felt thanks to the staff at James L West Center for Dementia Care for all the love and care they gave Ruth over the many years she resided there.

Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 at Blubonnet Hills Memorial Park.

Those who wish to express condolences are encouraged to make a gift to James L. West Center in memory of Ruth.
