Ruth Mapston

Ruth Mapston, age 83, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, October 17, 2023, at Edenbrook of Edina.
Ruth Esther Mapston was born June 22, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Phillip and Mary (Valenta) Phillips. She was raised in south Minneapolis and graduated from Southwest High School. She then attended Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing where she attained her Registered Nursing Degree. On May 6, 1960, Ruth married James Mapston. After marriage they made their home in Minneapolis and in 1969, they built their first and only home in Apple Valley. Ruth worked at Methodist Hospital as a RN for labor and delivery. Due to medical reasons, she retired in 2000. After retirement she traveled extensively including to Israel and the Holy Land, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and twice to Malawi with Doctors Without Borders. Ruth was active at church and was a huge Minnesota Twins fan, holding season tickets for decades.
Survivors include her children, Ron (Denise) of Morristown, Scott of Apple Valley, Kaylin (Charles) Kroll of Brooklyn Park; four grandchildren, Alicia, Amanda, Vincent, and Serra; sister, Edith Snyder of Goodland, Kansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James in 1992.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Berean Baptist Church, 309 County Road 42 East, Burnsville. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens in Burnsville.
Memorials are preferred to the American Stroke Foundation or the National Aphasia Association.
