Ruth Jeanne Murphy, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in
Naples, Florida, at the age of 80. Ruth was born on December 11, 1944, in Quanah, Texas, to Donald and Betty Armagost Blough. She was a beacon of love, kindness, and generosity to all who knew her, and her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends.
Ruth graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She dedicated her career to educating young minds, teaching elementary students in Maryland with passion and care. Her love for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as she was a mentor and role model to many.
On July 10, 1967, Ruth married the love of her life, Patrick Murphy, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her family first and making sure they were supported and loved. She had a special bond with her sons, Michael, Tim and Joe, and was a doting grandmother to her eight grandchildren-Elizabeth Bishop, Faith Rich, Jessica Broughton, Tabby Murphy, Jack Murphy, Sam Murphy, J.P. Murphy, and Meredith Murphy-and four great-grandchildren.
Ruth had a deep passion for life. She loved gardening, reading, boating, and golfing, and she could often be found surrounded by the beauty of nature, nurturing both plants and people alike. Her generous spirit extended beyond her hobbies; she was always willing to give her time and resources to help others, and she truly enjoyed hosting extended family gatherings during the holidays. Whether traveling with family and friends or simply spending time at home, Ruth's warmth and laughter filled every room.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband Patrick; her sons, Tim and Joe; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Bishop, Faith Rich, Jessica Broughton, Tabby Murphy, Jack Murphy, Sam Murphy, J.P. Murphy, and Meredith Murphy; four great-grandchildren; her sister Kath Wilson; and a host of extended family and friends who will forever carry her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Betty Blough, her son Michael Murphy, and her brother Don Blough.
A woman of grace, compassion, and unwavering love, Ruth was always there for her family, offering support in times of need and filling every moment with love and joy. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Fuller Funeral Home East Naples, with visiting hours from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by services beginning at 5:30 p.m. Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Marco Island Cemetery.
