Ruth Price, a beloved matriarch who devoted her life to family and faith, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, in her hometown of Topeka, Kansas, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 6, 1930, to Ira and Doney (Bryant) Burkhart, and from a young age, she exemplified a spirit of nurturing and care that would define her life’s work.

Her favorite position in life was that of a mother, and Ruth dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising her children. The legacy of her love did not stop there; she took immense joy in continuing this role with her grandchildren, ensuring each one felt cherished and valued. Ruth’s family, composed of sons Randy Price Sr., Greg Price, Mark Price, Eric (Dawn) Price, Daryl (Katie) Price, and daughter Roxanne (Alvin) Mack, along with her 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren, were her pride and joy. To them, she was known affectionately as "Dr. Ruth," a 911 spiritual advisor who always had their best interests at heart.

In addition to her commitment to family, Ruth's career included a noteworthy tenure at Blue Cross Blue Shield, where she worked diligently until her retirement in February 1993. However, her life’s passion remained her family and her deep faith. A proud member of Northern Hills Baptist Church, Ruth shared her love for the Lord through her actions, regularly reaching out to those around her, asking if they had found their faith and how she might help.

Her interests painted a picture of a woman vibrant and engaged with life. Ruth had a knack for finding treasures at garage sales; some would even call her a professional in the art of the find. Family gatherings were grand affairs organized by Ruth, who loved to celebrate every occasion with warmth and care. She was always present at her grandchildren's sporting events and concerts, cheering them on with an enthusiasm that left a lasting impression.

Ruth had a special affinity for the sport of baseball and was an ardent fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, proudly displaying her patriotism by flying the American flag outside her home. In her garden, she found peace, often seen pulling weeds and maintaining a pristine yard. Her love for cleanliness extended to her home, where no dish was ever left unwashed. A talented cook, she ensured that no guest left her home hungry, with each meal crafted from her heart.

Throughout her life, Ruth embodied the role of a caregiver, never missing a birthday card, thank you card, or any special occasion, ensuring that all her loved ones knew they were thought of. She volunteered at New Hope, always eager to lend a helping hand wherever she could. Ruth was not only the glue that held her family together but also the light that guided them through life’s challenges.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Harold Price, with whom she shared a loving marriage from their wedding day on December 17, 1948, until his passing in 2016. She was also predeceased by her parents, her sisters Velma Woodcock and Rose Hill, her infant brother Vernon Burkhart, and her daughter-in-law Barb Harris-Price.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Northern Hills Baptist Church, 920 NW 62nd Street, Topeka, KS 66618. A celebration of her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Northern Hills Baptist Church.

As we remember Ruth Price, we honor a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of faith, family, and relentless positivity will forever remain etched in our hearts.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northern Hills Baptist Church (Webster's Youth Camp).
