Ruth Rodriguez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2025.
My beautiful mama, Ruth Cecilia Rodriguez also known as "Cuca" passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 14, 2025, with me and Jax by her side. She was born in Bakersfield, California on Jan 27, 1933, to Mexican immigrant parents, Luis and Antonia Espinoza. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend who loved God, her family and community. She worked as a crossing guard for Bakersfield City Schools for over 30 years, retiring at age 85. She worked most of her career at Franklin Elementary School crossing multiple generations, where students knew her as 'Miss Ruth.' My mama was a deeply religious woman, regularly attending Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis Churches throughout her life. It was her practice to say her rosary and read her scriptures daily. She was an avid walker, loved flowers, especially roses, and always enjoyed her comida Mexicana.

She was preceded in death by her son Patrick, who died at age 6, and her husband of almost 30 years, Lupe Rodriguez. She was one of five siblings, preceded in death by her eldest sister, Dolores "Lola" San Miguel, youngest sister, Margarita Navarrette, and youngest brother Luis Espinoza Jr. She is survived by her younger brother, Jose "Joe" Espinoza. She is also survived by her eldest son, James (Jimmy) Velasquez, who provided care for her until her passing, and her grand-dog Jax. She leaves behind nephews, nieces, and other family members.

My mama was a strong, hard-working and loving woman who will be missed more than words can say. She was a beautiful example of how life's adversities and challenges can be met with faith, hope, and courage.

Her funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 28th at St. Francis Church at 900 H Street: Rosary will begin at 10 am and mass at 10:30. She will be interred with her mother at Union Cemetery following the mass and there will be a reception at the St. Francis Church Hall from 12 - 3 pm.
