Our remarkable mother and grandmother passed away October 21, 2023, at Barton Creek in Bountiful, Utah after a very full life from natural causes.
Ruth was born June 14, 1933, in Logan, Utah. The daughter of LeRoy and Sarah Keller, the youngest of five children
She graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah in 1951. From high school Ruth joined her sisters Beth and LaRee in San Francisco and was employed by the Pinkerton Detective Agency. During her time in San Francisco, she met a handsome Marine by the name of Weldon Shegrud from Minnesota. That led to a wedding on March 12, 1952.
They moved to Duluth, Minnesota where Weldon was attending college. Their first child was born in March 1953. While pregnant with their second child, they moved out west to Kearns, Utah. In 1960 the family loaded up and moved to Bountiful Utah with Steve, Mike, Sally, and Bob.
In 1963, Weldon was involved in a horrible car accident and Mom went to work and pursued a college degree at the University of Utah, while caring for her family and working full time graveyard shift. Mom graduated with the notable achievement of Magna Cum Laude with a Master of Science degree in Economics. She was employed at Hill Air Force Base until her retirement in 1990.
Her dear Weldon passed away in 2008 and that brought many changes to her life.
In 2010 Mom moved to Buhl, Idaho and developed many close friendships. Ruth’s joys in life were her family, obtaining her college B.S. and M.S. degrees, her working career at HAFB, her Bear Lake cabin, skiing, and a fierce game of cards. She loved to debate politics. Mom has always had a continuous desire to get into the car and take off for a drive to various locations, and this provided her much joy. Ruth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Weldon, her son John, and her son-in-law Brad Baugh.
She is survived by Steve (Katherine) St Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Mike (Renee) Bountiful Utah; Sally (Mike) Hamilton, Buhl Idaho; and Bob (Wendi) Centerville Utah, along with thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted October 28th at Lindquist Mortuary in Bountiful Utah with a viewing at 9:00am, Funeral Service at 10:00am, and a procession to the Logan Cemetery for grave dedication at 1:00pm.
Special Thanks to all the family and friends that provided joy to Mom’s life. They are too numerous to mention by name.
