Ryan Charles Shaw

Ryan Charles Shaw, 49, of Kingsford, was called home to God on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024. Ryan was the son of Charles (Sandy) Shaw and Siri Trumble.
Ryan entered the United States Army in February of 1996 after serving in the Army Reserves. During his 20 years of honorable service to his country, Ryan found his passion in the Army and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class as a combat engineer. He served as a Platoon Sergeant, Sapper Instructor, and served in a prestigious engineer unit in the 82nd Airborne. He attended and completed some of the Army's most elite training, including Air Assault, Airborne, Sapper, Jumpmaster, and Ranger Schools. Ryan proudly defended his beloved country with multiple tours in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. His valor in combat zones led to the award of various medals, including the Bronze Star Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/star, Iraq Campaign Medal w/ 2 stars, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), NATO Medal (2nd Award), UN Medal and Army Superior Unit Award. Ryan's accomplishments were on full display while in uniform, wearing badges that signified his qualifications and expertise. He wore the Sapper Tab, Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. His dedication to his profession and his country were unwavering.
While Ryan was a decorated soldier and master in his field, he was also one of the kindest, most caring souls. He cared deeply for his family and friends, consistently putting others before himself. He was a huge teddy bear who loved God, his family, his country, and his friends deeply. Ryan had a way of making you laugh with his quick wit and joking nature. He truly found his peace outdoors while hunting and fishing. Ryan always had a story about his outdoor adventures. Ryan's smile was brightest when he helped others succeed in life or when he made this world a better place, right up to the very end.
He is survived by his father, Charles (Sandy) Shaw of Florence, WI; his sister, Monica (Jim) Chartier of Iron Mountain; his brother, Dalbert (Dawn) Shaw of Arnold Air Force Base, TN; an uncle, Bernard Marcouiller of Lake Tomahawk, WI; 2 aunts, Wanda (Teck) Khor of Iron Mountain and Tina (Jeff) Dabb of Iron Mountain; nieces and nephews, Jacob, Tyler, James and Sam Chartier, Boomer, Hannah and Cameron Shaw; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother Siri Trumble, grandparents Harold and Wanda Trumbleand Frederick and Frances Shaw, Aunt Pam Marcouiller, and Uncle Richard Trumble.
Visitation will be at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain on Saturday, August 31st, 2024, from 10:00 to 12:00 P.M. with funeral services immediately following at the church. Rev. Dr. Nicholas Hopman will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Ryan.
