Salvatore J Chianese, 81 passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ, on April 3, 2025. He was born in Trenton, NJ, son of Joseph Chianese and Margaret Marinari. Salvatore was one of three siblings. Salvatore grew up in Trenton, NJ where he served as a Trenton police officer for three years and retired a Hamilton Township Detective Sergeant after serving for over 23 years. He also worked in the Human Resources and Property Protection areas for the New Jersey Turnpike for 16 years. He was very active in the community and served as a Hamilton Township school board member for three years and was an original member of the PAL boxing and Golden Gloves programs. He was co-owner of Creative Arts Trophy Store for 12 years and he at one time owned the restaurant "Mother Tuckers" on South Broad Street. He also loved umpiring in his spare time for ASA.
Salvatore was a family man and enjoyed many family traditions. He loved to travel and was an avid golfer (3 hole in ones). He also played tennis, stickball, bocce ball, and loved to ride his Harley Davidson while snow birding in the Villages, FL. He was an animal lover and randomly brought home stray animals, as well as adopting several rescue dogs.
Sal is predeceased by his parents, his sister Virginia, and his brother James. He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca of 40 years, sons Joseph (Cindy) and Robert (Amy), and daughter Jill Wilson (Jeffrey), stepdaughters Janelle Pierson and Heather Madia (Jeffrey). Twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 11 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ 08690. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital www.stjude.org or American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) www.ASPCA.org. Note-St. Gregory the Great Church will not accept flowers at this time due to the Lenten season.
