Salvatore (Sam) Peak, 87, of New Castle passed away the afternoon of October 29, 2025 at Haven Convalescent Home.
Born in New Castle on November 12, 1937, Sam was the son of the late Harry and Lucia Russo Peak.
On January 12, 1963 Sam married his beloved wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Sbarro. Mary preceded him in death on January 25, 2007.
In the early years, Sam had worked for Universal Rundle and Youngstown Sheet & Tube. He then worked for Lawrence County Catholic Cemeteries Association.
Sam had proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. He then served in the Army Reserves from 1963 to 1967.
Sam was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. He was an avid outdoors man, enjoying fishing, hunting and gardening. A loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Sam's greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren.
Sam is survived by his two children, Elizabeth (Libbi) Zbiegien (John) and Samuel Peak (Sheila), his brother, Walter Peak (Carol), his sister, Jane Carter, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sam was preceded in death by his son, Charles S. Peak, two brothers, Charles and Ralph Peak, two sisters, Loretta McKendrick and Harriette Bulisco and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Julie and Tony Faraone.
Visitation will be on Monday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 S. Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church. Father Benjamin Barr will officiate.
