Obituary published on Legacy.com by Royal Funeral Home, Inc. - Jesup on Jun. 27, 2024.
Sam Vincent was born on December 13, 1939 in Mossville - a small parish just outside of
Lake Charles, LA. to Chester B. Vincent and Pearl Hartman. Sam is the youngest of 4 siblings and a favorite nephew of his aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and siblings.
Sam was a beacon to those around him, illuminating the path with his quiet wisdom, easy going spirit and clever sense of humor, he loved to laugh! Whether you knew him as Diane's faithful and loving husband, proud father, happy grandfather, favorite uncle, dependable friend, or a wise mentor, you could always count on Sam for guidance, a cheerful word, or a gentle smile.
A man of many interests and skills, Sam's passion for golf, travel, sports, aviation, The Golden State Warriors and The San Francisco 49ers was contagious.... Sam was not a particularly skilled dancer, but he was a lifelong fan of great music, specifically 'The Blues', BB King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker are a few of his favorites.... And if you're lucky, you may have caught him humming and snapping his fingers a little off beat, but always joyous whenever the music drops. A true 'fixer' in both his personal and professional life, he always preferred balance, cooperation and harmony.
Sam's commitment to his family was unwavering. His love for his beautiful wife of 62 years, Diane, children and grandchildren was a constant, gentle force that shaped their lives in countless ways. He was our rock, our inspiration, and our eternal supporter.
As a young man, Sam served dutifully in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged from military service in 1963. Likely - this is where Sam learned the importance of punctuality... one mantra he repeated often (especially for HIS family), Be On Time!! And That's It!! Sam was always right on time...
In his professional life, Sam was highly respected by his employer and cherished by his colleagues and team at United Airlines, where he retired gracefully and respectably after more than 40 years. His integrity and diligence were not just words - but principles he lived by. Everyone knows that if Sam was involved, things would be done right and handled with care.
As we say goodbye to Sam today, let us remember not just the loss but the richness he brought into our lives. His legacy will continue in the lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared. Rest in Power to a King. "Til Valhalla", Dad. Farewell for now Pops - until we meet again. Your magnificent and gentle spirit will forever resonate in our hearts.
Sam is survived by his faithful and loving wife Diane, magnificent children Marc, Kelly, Craig, Craig's lovely wife, Tanja, superstar Grandson Devon, dozens of adoring nieces and nephews, scores of grand-nieces and grand-nephews, great-grand nephews and a brand new great-grand niece. Sam's life is a testament to resilience, kindness and an enthusiastic zest for living.
