Age 32
Born April 16, 1992
Sam went on to his heavenly home with Jesus on October 30, 2024, after suffering from advanced staged pulmonary fibrosis, a disease which creates scarring of the lungs that makes it hard to absorb oxygen into the blood stream and causes difficulty with breathing.
Sam grew up in Anderson Township on the east side of Cincinnati. He attended Sherwood Elementary School, Nagel Middle School, and graduated from Turpin High School in 2010 where he played football for two years. He attended University of Cincinnati in Batavia, and culinary school at Cincinnati State. He most recently was employed at Amazon in Hebron, Kentucky, in the air cargo department.
Sam is survived by his parents who adored him, Robert (Bob) High Guard and Sharon Marie Guard (nee Tulenson), and his loving older sister Alexandra (Allie) Helen Guard who has Down Syndrome and is known around the area for her art business, Allie Art Designs. Bob, Sharon, and Allie are residing in Anderson Township. All four of his grandparents predeceased him: John Connor Guard, Eloise Guard (nee Westendorf), Armand John Tulenson, and Margaret Helen Tulenson (nee Pocza).
He was fortunate to have many aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of his family who thought the world of him, as well as a group of amazing friends. He was part of a wonderful church community, Anderson Hills Church, where he had faithful people pour into him spiritually, and who supported Sam and his family during his difficult health journey.
Sam enjoyed the outdoors, especially kayaking and hiking, he had a love for music, especially The Grateful Dead, and was a foodie and craft-beer lover. He was a big strong man with a kind and compassionate heart, and a strong sense of mercy and justice.
Services for Sam will be held at Anderson Hills Church, 7515 Forest Road, Cincinnati, 45255, on Friday, November 8. The Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00pm, and the Memorial Service at 2:00-3:00pm. The interment, for family only, will be on Saturday, November 9, at 12:00pm at Spring Grove Cemetery.

I am shocked and so sorry to hear this. Samuel is just a couple years older than my daughter and I remember him in young children Sunday school classes at Anderson Hills. Such a grounded and nice young man.
