William Emerson Guard

William "Bill" Emerson Guard, Jr., 87, of 25 Poplar Lane Dr., Roxboro, died Sunday, July 20, 2025. Born in Connellsville, PA, Mr. Guard was the son of the late William Emerson, Sr. and Vera Lewis Guard and husband of the late Patricia Ann Smith Guard. Mr. Guard served in the US Navy and was a member of Theresa Baptist Church. He worked for General Tire and later retired from Penn Athletics. Mr. Guard was an avid golfer and he loved fishing and hunting. He bowled with the Person County bowling league and volunteered with the Person County Senior Center, helping them with Meals on Wheels and taking patients to their doctor's appointments. Mr. Guard was also a former president of the Poplar Lane Drive home owner's association and was instrumental in getting the City of Roxboro to run the water line to their subdivision.
Mr. Guard is survived by two sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Amy Guard and Randolph and Erin Guard; one sister, Carol Clawson; two grandchildren, Owen Guard and Renn Guard; one step-grandchild, Blake Ashley and wife Amanda; one great-grandchild, Carson Ashley.
Memorial services will be held 11AM Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Theresa Baptist Church by the Rev. Ben Francis and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11AM Thursday prior to the service and at other times at the home of Jeffrey and Amy, 2400 Chub Lake Rd., Roxboro.
