Samuel “Sam” Bryant Miller, 73, of Mt. Holly passed away on June 2, 2022, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born on May 14, 1949, to the late Janie Spence Miller Atkins and John Miller. He is also preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Atkins and his sister, Patricia Miller Williams. Sam graduated with a small group of classmates from the class of 1967 at McCormick High School in McCormick, S.C. He was an excellent writer receiving the American Legion Award during High School and his speech about the Vietnam War was read by Strom Thurmond. He served on the school newspaper as the Society Editor and Advertising for the school yearbook. He then went on to get his Associates Degree in Anthropology at Central Piedmont Community College. He was also OSHA Certified. He spent most of his career as a lineman with Charlotte Mecklenburg Utility Department. He was a staff bartender with the Charlotte Country Club. He also worked for some time at D&L Appliance Parts as the warranty manager and then worked for Shield Environmental as their OSHA manager. He later moved onto Pressley Services and then ended his work career with AZ Price Mechanical. Sam loved hunting, hiking, fishing, riding his Harley, and traveling with his wife. He also was the lead singer in The Chessman Band during his High School years. He was known for his rendition of “On the Boardwalk.”
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Billie Hartis Miller; brother-in-law, Terry L. Williams; aunt, Avis Edwards; and cousins, Roger Edwards, Diane Stribling, Vera Courson, and Gail Ashley.
Services are being held privately.
