Mr. Samuel Tyrone “Sam” Petersen, age 85, of the Pottsville Community, formerly of Chapel Hill, TN, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 9, 2025 surrounded by his family. Sam was born May 5, 1940 in Nashville, TN to the late Floyd Petersen and Helen Hedrix Silsby. Sam was a member of the New Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Sam was very quick to let you know how much he loved and adored his family. Growing up, you could find Sam fishing, hunting, and grilling with his family. When he became a dad, he truly enjoyed the meaning of parenting. Later on, he created a special love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He traveled hundreds of miles supporting and always cheering the grandchildren on at any of their ball games. He enjoyed watching the Tennessee Volunteers and Tennessee Titans sporting teams as well as the Forrest Rockets. Sam would bring packages of Gatorades to the football team at Forrest to make sure they stay hydrated and ready to play on Friday. He could be heard from the stands cheering for the teams he loved. He was able to attend the “Music City Miracle” in Nashville when the Titans made a historic comeback.
