Samuel "Sam" Thompson

Samuel "Sam" Thompson, 80, Marion, passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones at 7:05 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026. He was born in Newport, Tennessee, on Friday, March 16, 1945, to Walter and Edna (Hurst) Thompson. On February 29, 1988, he married Linda Sue Donaldson who preceded him in 2024.

Sam graduated from Cocke County High School. He worked at RCA and then was the owner of Thompson trucking for 47 years. He enjoyed racing dirt track and restoring old cars, especially his corvette. Working man from sunup to sundown 7 days a week, he really enjoyed going to the shop and working. He also liked listening to old country music. He spent a lot of time with close friends and family.

Survivors include his sons, Bradley (Wendy Wesling-Dabb) Kline of Marion, Todd Kline of Marion; daughters, Gina (Vic) Vance of New Market, TN, Kristy Thompson of Newport, TN, LaShannon Wilson of Newport, TN; sister, Debbie Stuart of White Pine, TN; caretakers, Rachel Horton, Lori Mancha, Vickie Chitwood, Bill Rigney; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife, Linda Sue Thompson; parents, Walter and Edna Thompson; daughter, Angela Thompson; brothers, Eddie Thompson, Jerry Thompson; and sister, Elaine Fields.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Sam's life will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
