Samuel Carl Von Brock, age 92 of Gulf Breeze, Florida passed away at Gulf Breeze Baptist Hospital on November 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Sam was born in Edwardsville, Illinois, the son of Carl and Virginia McKittrick Von Brock. Boy Scouts became an important activity. He worked hard and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a major in physics and served in the U.S. Army in occupied Germany.
He attended Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, graduating in industrial design. This education brought him to Detroit, Michigan where he worked for Ford Motor and the Chrysler Corporation as an automotive stylist. He was particularly proud of his contributions for the 64-65 Ford Falcon. Sam furthered his education by receiving a master’s degree from Wayne State University.
He and his young family moved to Athens, Ohio where he taught industrial design for Ohio University. After leaving Athens, they found themselves in Lancaster, Ohio where Sam was employed at Anchor Hocking and American Electrical Power. In Lancaster he enjoyed assisting in community activities such as the Boy Scouts and Indian Guides. Friends from “the Bridge Group” became some of his dearest friends. Traveling together resulted in many enjoyable memories.
Sam was an avid reader, a critical thinker and world traveler. His family and friends benefited from his numerous creative projects, his care, attention to detail and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert “Bob” Von Brock and sister Mary Baker.
Sam is survived by his wife Joann and sons William “Bill” and David (Stefanie). Grandchildren Allison (Tyler) and Ryan. Great grandchildren Benjamin and Charlotte. Sister-in-law Gloria Von Brock and many nieces and nephews.
He will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church or the Boy Scouts of America.
