Samuel Dominic Zappasodi, 100 years old. Sam was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 16, 2022.
Born on September 30, 1922, in Martins Creek, PA, son of the late Arturo and Graziosa (Camilli) Zappasodi.
Sam served his country in WWII in the Pacific Theatre as an X-ray Technician. He retired from Bethlehem Steel as a heavy equipment operator and lived in Bethlehem for over 70 years.
Sam was a master gardener, photographer, woodworker; skilled in making wooden clocks and crafts. Sam referred to himself as a jack of all trades. He could fix or repair anything. He was also a talented artist, particularly drawing and painting. Of all his considerable gifts, making things grow was his lifelong passion which brought him joy that included canning vegetables from his garden. He was also very proud of his Italian heritage, making homemade bread and wine.
Sam was a man of faith in God, following closely the good example set by his parents. By his life, Sam set a beautiful legacy for his children and the generations to follow that God has blessed him to see.
Sam was a devoted husband to his late wife, Diane (Dolly), for over 50 years. All those who knew and loved him will remember the legacy he left behind that will last eternally. His family is forever grateful for his love and devotion to them throughout his life.
He will be dearly missed by his son, David and his wife, Adel Zappasodi, of Arlington, TX; daughter, Debra and her husband, Gary Weber, of Bethlehem; six grandchildren: David, Anthony, Matthew Zappasodi, Julie McCann, Jacqueline Fiore, Tyler Weber, and spouses; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor and her husband, Richard MacLaughlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sam is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane (Campanella) Zappasodi who passed away in 2003; parents, Arturo and Graziosa Zappasodi; sister, Eda Zappasodi; brother, Charles Zappasodi; and his grandson, Anthony Zappasodi.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 1817 1st St., Bethlehem, PA 18020, with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Savior Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Donation Form - With Tribute/Honor Fields | Paralyzed Veterans of America (pva.org).
