Samuel Calhoun Zweifel

Samuel Calhoun Zweifel (Sam), of Charlotte, NC, passed away on June 16, 2025 after a long battle with Stage 4 glioblastoma. He was 74.

Sam was born January 9, 1951 at Camp Lejeune, NC to Dr. Sam Zweifel Jr. and Jean Maurine Harris.

The family moved to Kingman, KS where he lived until his graduation from Kingman High School in 1969.

He then moved to Lawrence, KS to attend the University of Kansas where he earned a BA in History and Political Science in 1974.

Sam joined Sigma Phi Epsilon. He lived at Templin Hall where he worked as the Assistant Residence Director.

Following his graduation from KU, Sam joined his family at their US Department of State posting in Pretoria, South Africa. While there, Sam managed Shipwreck Kellys, a restaurant in Capetown, SA. He returned to the US in 1975 to Vienna, VA and joined the McDonalds area management team about the same time the Egg McMuffin was introduced. It was then his lifelong love of all things "McDonalds" began. Sam kept all his Breakfast Club coffee mugs.

Sam returned to the University of Kansas to earn his Master of Business Administration. He lived at Stephenson Scholarship Hall and worked as the Director (Proctor).

Upon completion of his MBA in 1979, he joined American Hospital Supply and worked as a Distribution Manager in their Kansas City, MO, Oklahoma City, OK and Arlington, TX warehouses.

In 1989, Sam returned with his family to Mclean, Virginia and joined RealNet Learning Services as Director of Programs Services. He worked with them until his death.

Sam is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Sam Zweifel Jr. and Jeanne Maurine Harris.

Sam is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia Margaret Zwego, his siblings, Sabra Wagoner (Warren) of Paradise Valley, AZ, Scott Zweifel (Mary) of Williamsburg, VA and Sarah Sillman (Bruce) of Lexington, KY, and his sons, Samuel Clay Zweifel (Ashley) of Atlantic Highlands, NJ and David Martin Zweifel (Jess) of Lexington, MA and his grandchildren, Samuel Zweifel V, Spenser Zweifel, Max Zweifel and Zoe Zweifel.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to the Samuel Calhoun Zweifel Memorial Fund at the Kingman Carnegie Library, 455 N. Main St, Kingman,KS 67068. Their Children's Programs were greatly enjoyed by his beloved grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held in Kingman,KS on a date to be determined.
