It is with tremendous sorrow but joyful memories that we share the news of our Mother’s death on February 17, 2024. Sandra “Sandy” JoAnn (Smithmeyer) Duesing passed away at the age of 86 in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. She had been looking forward to being reunited with her beloved husband Eugene and her son Greg.
Sandy was born in Richmond, Indiana on November 16, 1938 to the union of Joseph and Helen Smithmeyer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, Godmother, aunt, neighbor and friend.
A 1956 graduate of Seton High School, Sandy formed numerous lifelong friendships that enriched her life. Through mutual friends, she met her husband Eugene Duesing, they married on April 12, 1958 and shared 64 loving years. Together they raised 5 children; Greg, Denise, Amy, George and Mickey.
Her most cherished role was that of a mom and homemaker. She loved to support her 11 grandchildren's activities, sports, academics, career choices and interests. Sandy loved to spoil her grandchildren with thoughtful gifts or a "little spending money". Her happy place was cuddling a baby in her arms.
Sandy was fiercely independent, intelligent, opinionated and loved a good debate with family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker who hosted family celebrations and weekly dinners on Thursdays. Her front door was always open to family, friends and any unexpected guests.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, and watching game shows on the television. She loved to start her day sitting on her back deck admiring the beauty of her rose bushes.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Denise (Bruce) Lucki, Amy Wolfert, George (Kathleen) Duesing, Mickey (Dave) Buller and the late Greg (Michele) Duesing: her adored grandchildren, Joy (Brian) Bunn, Bradley (Lauren) Duesing, Sean (Sarah) Duesing, Alexandra (Troy) Cooper, Danielle (Nate) Stewart, Ryan (Becca) Buller, Kyle Lucki, Cassie Lucki, Andrew (Megan) Buller, Brady Buller and Nathaniel Duesing: sweetest great-grandchildren, Barrett, Louie, Trevor, CeCe, Weston, Mia, Nora, Lily, Lucy, Anna, Julia, Sophie, Claire and two on the way, brother Jay Smithmeyer: in-laws: Carol Maddox, Mary (Jack) Grau, Joan (the late Jerry) Lynn and the late Fr. Tom Duesing. She is also survived by numerous family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 28th at 11 AM at Our Lady of Victory, 810 Need Road, 45233. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Pregnancy West.
