Sandra Gephart Harris, age 80, went to be with the Lord on June 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her father Ira C. Gephart, her mother Louise Lucas Gephart, five brothers, three sisters, and the love of her life and husband of 54 years, John Wayne Harris, Sr., and numerous friends.
She is survived by her son John Wayne Harris, Jr. (Lori) of Jarratt, VA, and daughter Robin Harris Heese (Russell) of Emporia, VA.
She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Jarratt, VA, for over 58 years where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, youth director, and lay leader for many years.
Sandra dedicated her life to her family and to serving God in various ways. She enjoyed sharing homemade dishes with people in the community and the church, especially when they were sick. She was truly a devout Christian and Proverbs 31 woman, who will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she impacted.
She worked at Jarratt Drug Store, Hoagy’s Market, and Monte’s Flower Shop in Emporia where she was a floral designer until she retired in 2005.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Road, Jarratt, VA. where Sandra’s family will have a visitation and receive family and friends at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the service
Her service will be conducted by Rev. Greg Hand, minister of Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Gasburg, VA, where Robin and Russell are members, and Rev. Fred O’Daire, minister of Centenary UMC in Jarratt, VA. Interment will be at a later date in a private ceremony at High Hills Cemetery, Jarratt, VA.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and to Centenary UMC, P.O. Box 472, Jarratt, VA 23867.
