Sandra Lea Parson, age 78, of Blacksburg, Virginia, died Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. She was born in Greensboro, Maryland on May 28, 1946, to the late Walter Woodrow (Woody) and Stella Mae Brubaker Cannon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Roscoe Parson, Jr., and her brother, Robert Woodrow Cannon.
Sandy is survived by daughter and son-in-law Michele (Misty) Parson and Bob Snyder; son and daughter-in-law Shane and Rachel Parson; son Clint Parson; grandsons Kodi Parson, Dylan Parson and wife Amanda Parson, Jesse Parson, and Gavin Snyder.
Sandy grew up in Denton, Maryland on Maryland's Eastern Shore and loved going to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. After her marriage to Bob Parson in 1966, she lived in Berks County, Pennsylvania with their growing family, through the mid-1980's, obtaining her BS in Speech Language Pathology from Kutztown University in 1985. The family then moved to Blacksburg, Virginia, where she lived for the rest of her life except for a brief move to Wasilla, Alaska in the mid-1990's. She obtained her MS in Communication Science and Disorders from Radford University in 1992. She worked as a Speech and Language Pathologist in public schools and medical care facilities throughout Southwest Virginia, including Blacksburg, Radford, Salem, Roanoke, Fincastle, Alleghany County, Bland County, Floyd County, Martinsville, Galax, and Farmville. She was a member of Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 at 11:00 am in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sarah Wiles officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 am until service time McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
