Sandra Jane Weathers, born Sandra MacIntosh in Needham, Massachusetts, in June 1936, was the third child of Florence and Winthrop MacIntosh. She grew up on Maple Street in Needham. Sandra lost her father at the young age of 12. In response, she played an active role in helping her mother cultivate flowers and manage the greenhouse business that her mother owned and operated for many years.
Sandra attended high school in Needham, where she boarded during her studies. Her academic dedication led her to Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in June 1958.
In July 1958, shortly after graduating college, Sandra married Robert F. Weathers at St. Joseph’s Church in Needham. Together, they raised five children and built a loving home. The couple first settled in Greenwood, Massachusetts before moving to Vernon Street in Wakefield as their family grew.
While Sandra was primarily a stay-at-home mother, she contributed to her family by taking on small jobs as opportunities arose. Once her youngest child entered elementary school, Sandra began working as the school secretary at Montrose School in Wakefield. She later advanced her career as a Logistics Management Specialist at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Massachusetts—a role she served in faithfully for 19 years until her retirement.
Sandra and Bob shared a love for travel, exploring many countries and traveling with their RV across the US. Sandra was known for her intelligence, kindness, and caring nature. Her talents in the kitchen made her a wonderful cook and an even better baker. She enjoyed entertaining guests and was deeply devoted to her family, serving as both a nurturing mother and a mentor to her children.
Sandra is survived by her five children: Deb Desmond of Seabrook, NH, Susan Sheldon of Westbrook, ME, Judy Deslaurius of Wilton, NH, Karen Valachovic of St. Augustine, FL, and Joseph Weathers of Annadale, VA. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren—Stephanie Fortin, Nicholas Frey, Jill Sheilds, Ryan Sheldon, Taylor Rucevice, Morgan Bayrd, and Andrew Valachovic—and her seven great grandchildren Madison and Brook Sheilds, Trey and Jackson Fortin, Ava Sheldon, and Alexander and Anderson Valachovic.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Maria Goretti Church, 112 Chestnut St., Lynnfield, MA on Friday, November 21 at 11:00am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, MA, prior to the mass from 9:00-10:30am. Interment, Mount Vernon Cemetery, Boxford, MA.
