Sara "Sally" J. DelPopolo Lundquist September 24, 1929 - January 13, 2024
Sally was born in Jamestown, NY to Paul Lundquist and Lillian Jenkins. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 94. She was a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Library Science. Her career was at Homer Intermediate School where she was the librarian and also proudly mentored students for over 20 years.
Sally was an active member of the state teacher's union. She was the delegate for her school district and represented it on organizations where she lobbied for teacher causes and benefits. She enjoyed recreation with her many friends. She loved traveling and most enjoyed outdoor park camping and exploring. She was a sports enthusiast, following Syracuse University basketball and football teams. She would yell at the television and suggest game strategies.
Sally's defining quality was her unwavering support for her children, Mary Jo and Phillip. She was very proud of Mary Jo, a Cornell University graduate. Mary Jo became a career educator and a renowned child reading specialist. Phillip became a PGA golf professional and Sally enjoyed telling friends that as well.
Sally spent her final years at Foxdale Retirement Community in State College, Pennsylvania. She served on several community committees advocating for resident concerns and well-being. Sally was a favorite of the nurses there; many of them said that Sally was always looking out for them. That is who she was!
Sally was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jo. She is survived by her son, Phillip; grandchildren, Melissa, Paula and Ben and great-grandchildren, Blaine and Wesly.
