In Loving Memory of Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Boyle Cusato
Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Boyle Cusato, daughter of Walter Henry Boyle and Pauline Deschenes, was born July 15, 1938 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Sally attended school in Manchester and was the valedictorian of the 1956 graduating class of Central High School. She played the violin in the school orchestra, was a member of the Central High Debating team and Maskers Drama Club, served as president of the Central High chapter of the National Honor Society, and was editor of the English Department's quarterly publication.
Sally was awarded an academic scholarship to attend Radcliffe College (now part of Harvard University) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She attended most of her classes on the Harvard campus, and was honored to be taught by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Henry Kissinger. Sally was the Business Manager for Radio Radcliffe, SGA Representative for McIntire House, and was involved in the Winthrop House Musical Society, Radcliffe Shield, and the Sophomore Class Committee. During the summers she worked at the Samoset Hotel in Rockland, Maine. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in government, cum laude, in 1960, Sally worked as a travel consultant in the Boston office of the American Automobile Association.
In 1961 Sally met James "Jim" Cusato, and they married in 1962 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jim and Sally were blessed with five children. A wonderful mother, Sally stayed at home to raise the children. In 1979, they moved the family and Jim's dental practice to Spring, Texas.
Sally was a magnificent cook and loved to entertain, always taking excellent care of her family and guests. She spent a great deal of time planning and cooking when people came to visit, paying attention to the smallest details to make people feel special - such as having the type of coffee creamer or soda they preferred. If someone she knew didn't have plans for a holiday meal, Sally would invite them over as she didn't want anyone to have to spend holidays feeling alone.
Due to declining health, in June, 2024 Sally moved to Richardson, Texas to be closer to her children. On November 6, 2024, she passed away in Richardson, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86.
Sally is survived by her son Louis (Shawn Alis) Cusato, daughter Ellen Cusato Messer, son Walter (Anna) Cusato, daughter Holly (Dennis) Powers, son-in-law Greg Taggart, grandchildren Katie, Jocelyn, and Rory Taggart; Daniella, Rachael and William Messer; Allison Cusato; Kelly (Mark) Cartolano; Aidan (Serena) Powers; Trevor, Cian and Ronan Powers, brother-in-law Gene Serfass, sister-in-law Jeanne Syvertsen, and devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, her daughter Suzanne Cusato Taggart, her parents, her sister Debby Serfass, and her brother-in-law Bob Syvertsen.
Please join us in celebrating her life at 2:00 PM (Central time) on Saturday November 23 at the Memorial Northwest Community Center, 17440 Theiss Mail Route Road, Spring, TX 77379.
