Sarah Elizabeth Merchant

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth "Libby" Merchant of Kennesaw, GA, passed away on November 7, 2025, in Canton, GA.

Born in Ravenswood, West Virginia, Libby was a Registered Nurse with a generous heart and steady hands. She touched countless lives through her dedication, compassion, and unwavering love for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a cherished friend to many.

She was a wonderful seamstress, sewing clothes for her kids and grandchildren, weaving creativity and care into every stitch. In 1962, she held the title of Miss Tall Atlanta, a testament to her grace and confidence. She dedicated many years to Northside Hospital, where her compassionate presence touched patients and families alike. Her life was a testament to service and family. She poured love into every role, nurse, seamstress, mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. Her love extended to her home, where her beloved cats brought her daily comfort and joy. Her warmth, wisdom, and gentle strength will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

Libby was also a longtime and faithful member of Roswell United Methodist Church, where she was dedicated to family ministry and was instrumental in the pioneering Step Family Program-a true reflection of her compassion for blended families and the healing power of faith and connection.

Libby is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence (Larry) Merchant.

She is survived by her children, Mike Estes (wife Candace), Laura Hart (husband Kenny), and Wendy Drought, stepdaughters Rebecca Merchant (husband Brad Evans) and Laura Alexander (husband Bill), and grandchildren Caleb Estes, Aidan Estes, Nathan Butler, Josh Butler, Kenneth Junior "K.J." Hart, Mitchell Drought, Eliza Drought, Maya Alexander, and Sofi Alexander.

A memorial service will take place at Lakeside Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, with the family receiving friends from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and service starting at 3:00 pm.
