Schley Purvis, 61, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, October 12, 2018 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Brother Rodney Bounds and Bobby Huff will officiate.
Schley spent most of his life in Brandon and was a graduate of Brandon High School where he played many sports. He played baseball at Hinds Community College before attending the University of Southern Mississippi where he made lifelong friends on the USM golf team. Schley was an accomplished amateur golfer who played on the Mississippi Cup Team, the US Amateurs and the Mid-Amateurs. Schley had a huge personality and had an uncanny way of making people laugh even in the most difficult of circumstances.
The love of Schley’s life was his wife, Debbie, and their two children, Zach and Kelsey. Watching his children grow up and become successful adults was a great source of pride and joy.
Schley was a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Debbie Huff Purvis; one son, Zachary Schley Purvis; one daughter, Kelsey Jeniece Purvis; his mother, Shirley Hales Purvis and one brother, Russell Allen Purvis. Schley was preceded in death by his father, Schley Albert Purvis, Sr.
Memorials may be made in Schley’s memory to Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, Attention Chuck Stinson, 4400 Lakeland Drive, Flowood, MS 39232.
