Marie Celine Osbourn, SCN, 97, was born February 21, 1928, on her family's farm in Washington County, Kentucky. She was the sixth of ten children of Victor and Ida Clements Osbourn. She died November 17, 2025, in Louisville, Ky. She was a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 77 years.
She was in the juniorate at Nazareth for two years. Her sister Dorothy, Sister James Leon, was already a Sister at Nazareth at that time.
In 1959, she earned a bachelor's degree in education from Spalding College and in 1965 she earned a master's degree in education from Spalding College.
Sister Celine's first mission was teaching at Saint Augustine in Louisville where she remained for 12 years. Sister Celine then went to Saint Jerome in Fancy Farm, Kentucky. Later she served as principal at Saint Pius X in Louisville, St. Cecilia in Louisville, Holy Angels in Maryland, and Little Flower in Memphis.
From 1984 to 1993 she served as the Director of Campus Service at Nazareth.
After her years as Director of Campus Service, Sister Celine went to Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she served as chaplain for over twenty years until she retired to Nazareth, Ky, in 2017.
She is survived by her extended family, and her SCN Community.
Visitation for Sister Celine will be from 4-5 pm on Thursday, November 20 at St. Vincent DePaul Church. There will not be a wake service. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am at the church, with burial to follow at Nazareth Cemetery. Services for Sister Celine will be live streamed at Nazareth.org/live.
Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road in Louisville. Memorials may be made to the Office of Mission Advancement, PO Box 9, Nazareth, KY, 40048.
