Scott Galinsky Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Dunn’s Funeral Home on Feb. 25, 2025.
Scott Galinsky originally of Des Moines, IA and Los Angeles, CA died peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, February 22, 2025 in his home in Somerville, MA. His parents are James and Elise Galinsky of Sarasota, FL. His grandparents were Dr. Cecelia and Ben Liebow, both deceased and Helen and Louis Galinsky, both deceased - all of Des Moines, Iowa. Other survivors include his brother, Blair Galinsky with wife, Nicole Rosenberg of Somerville, MA; sister, Victoria Galinsky of Des Moines, IA; niece Rebekah Galinsky with husband Tal Danilof of Tel Aviv, Israel; and niece, Danielle Galinsky of Denver, CO.
Scott graduated from Valley High school in West Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Psychology. While attending Boston University, he was the Photography Director for the school newspaper. His interest in photo journalism led him to move to Los Angeles, CA, where his innate, creative talents drew him to enroll at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA where he received an M.F.A. in Cinematography.
Scott spent 25 years as a Director of Photography working in television, movies, and commercials. He was an Adjunct Professor at the New York Film Academy in LA, teaching classes in Form and Function: Applied Modern Color Theory and Technique. He was Portfolio Advisor at the ArtCenter of Design, Pasadena, CA. He was also a Visual Arts Consultant and a featured speaker in 80 AD Photographic Survey at Long Beach City College. He won Gold and Silver Clio awards for his commercials "Doctors without Borders," and "Chanel No. 5." Scott was the Director of Photography on the Television show, CSI Las Vegas.
After an accident limiting his ability to handle the physical requirements of filming, he continued his education at the Chicago School of Psychology in Los Angeles, receiving an M.S., in Clinical Psychology. Most recently, he was a Counselor in Behavioral Sciences in Psychology in the Boston area. He was also enrolled at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology where he was pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology.
Scott spent one year in Israel, as a freelance Photographer and did a six-month stint with the Israel Defense Forces. His dedication to his faith and Israel and his broad commanding knowledge of the country made him a compelling advocate of the current situation and Zionist movement. He was in the process of documenting the events of October 7, 2023 in Israel. To that end, he had conducted interviews with residents, rabbis, and dignitaries of Kibbutz K'far during his most recent visit to Israel in May 2024.
Scott's outgoing manner and friendly attitude made him a friend to all, thus enabling him to be a mentor and advisor to his clients. Scott would devote himself to the current project of the moment or his studies, such as playing the guitar, studying, or focusing on a class.
Memorial donations in Scott's memory may be made to Chabad Treatment Center of Los Angeles, or Tifereth Israel Synagogue, Des Moines, IA.
Funeral arrangements are through Iles Dunn's Funeral Home and burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. The family has requested services be private, invitation only.
