Scott William Lanphear, 42, passed away at a shared living residence in Colchester, VT on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.
Born on April 10, 1983, he was the son of Kevin and Susan Lanphear. From birth, Scott was always enamored by fantasy, whether it be "The Wizard of Oz", "Sesame Street", "Super Mario Brothers", or "The Simpsons".
Scott graduated in 2001 from Mt. Mansfield Union High School in Jericho. He then attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Castleton State College. He was an avid reader with a strong interest in politics and history. He was also a TV and movie enthusiast.
Despite his struggles with autism spectrum disorder, he could intelligently discuss many topics and could answer a large percentage of all the categories on "Jeopardy". Due to health issues over the last several years, he was limited in many activities but very much enjoyed spending time with his family.
Scott is survived by his father, Kevin, of Jericho; sister, Robin Miller and family of Hinesburg; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Susan, in 2016.
A special thank you to Travis St. Peter of the Howard Center and housemate, Peggy Spencer.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, July 12th from 11 a.m. to noon at the Ready Funeral Home Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive in Essex Junction. An opportunity to share words of remembrance will immediately follow. Burial will take place in Pleasant View Cemetery in Jericho.
In lieu of flowers, please consider finding an item or two in your attic or basement to donate to your local Restore or Habitat for Humanity.
Arrangements are in the care of Ready Funeral & Cremation Services.

Scott was an amazing person, and friend. I met Scott in grade school, around 3rd or 4th grade. I still remember playing underneath cafeteria tables, as our sisters and mothers engaged in Girl Scout activities at local elementary and middle schools. Our friendship would continue off and on into middle school and high school, often getting together to play board games. Through college years, and adult life Scott and I still found time to connect. Mostly we would catch up on the phone, talking about our health, our hobbies, what TV shows we were watching, or things in the news. But, what sticks with me the most is Scott's loyalty to our friendship. Through the years, despite how busy we were, how old we were getting, we always seemed to find time to connect. Scott was and will forever be the definition of a pure soul, and a great friend. I will miss our phone calls Scott. Thank you for being in my life, and teaching me how to be a better human.
