It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Russell Scott Matthews, who passed away on September 6, 2025 following a brave fight with cancer at the age of 64. Surrounded by loved ones, he departed peacefully. Born on August 25, 1961 in Fairfax, Virginia, he was the beloved son of William Russell & Katie Gaskins Matthews. As a gifted chef, Scott brought people together through food; each dish a reflection of love, creativity, and joy. Beyond the kitchen, he was a true car enthusiast and always up for a drive, a restoration project, or simply admiring the beauty of well-built machines. Known for being impeccably dressed and effortlessly stylish, his presence always lit up the room. With a generous heart, Scott leaves behind a legacy as vibrant and timeless as the life he lived. He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie Matthews; his siblings: William Edgar Matthews (Debbie) and Mary Lynn Malloy (Joe) his children and their spouses: William Blake Matthews (Aurora) and Marcus Lee Matthews (Lauren). He was also the proudest grandpa to his five granddaughters: River Hendrix, Rain Blake, Olivia Mae, Madelyn Lee, and Sunny Grace.

Forever loved. Deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 11am at The Grove Church.
