Scott McComas Obituary
Scott Donald McComas, a beloved husband, father, and son, passed away on June 29, 2025, in Morehead City, North Carolina, at the age of 54. Born on December 21, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, Scott was known for his dedication to family, community, and a love for the coastal life.
After growing up in California, Scott made the momentous decision to move with his family to the Wilmington area of North Carolina, seeking to be closer to loved ones and embrace the warmth of community and the beauty of the beach-a place that held a special place in his heart. His career was marked by a commitment to public service, having worked diligently at the Port of Wilmington under the NC Ports Authority, where his contributions were deeply valued. Scott also served the people as an appointed member of the Wilmington City Council, striving to make a positive impact on his community.
Preceded in death by his brother, Brian McComas, Scott leaves behind a legacy of love and care shared with his surviving family.
He is remembered with great affection by his parents, Donald Lee McComas and Vivian Sara Velez McComas of California.
Scott's devoted wife, Kathie Ellen Elliott, mourns his passing alongside their three children: Kara Jane Williams and her husband, Brandon, of Maryland; Kallie Ann Sommers-McComas of Greenville, North Carolina; and Ryan Spencer McComas of Wilmington, North Carolina; his three grandchildren, Ryian, Seth and Wyatt; all his newest brothers that he worked with every day at Metro Port of Wilmington.
He will be dearly missed by his sister-in-law, Erika Elliott of Hawaii; two nieces, Korel McComas of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Sparkles Eira Elliott of Hawaii. Scott was cherished by his father-in-law, Fred Sommers, whom he affectionately called Papa, and his mother-in-law, U-sa Sommers of Tabor City. His mother-in-law, Debbie Elliott, and father-in-law, Bob Elliott "Grandpa" of McKinney, Texas, also grieve his passing, as does his faithful pet, Mister Misdemeanor McComas.
At this time, arrangements for a celebration of Scott's life are incomplete and will be updated in due course. Memorial contributions in Scott's honor may be directed towards his children's college funds and funeral expenses, ensuring the support of the family he so dearly loved.
