Scott Ashley Shamp, 84, passed away on December 23, 2022.
He was born November 22, 1938 to Hazel Garver and John A Shamp in Fremont, Ohio. He grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia area. He was a member of the Bretton Wood Boy Singers in New Hampshire for two summers as a boy soprano. He attended South West DeKalb High School and Oglethorpe University where he was a standout basketball player. He received his teaching credentials from Austin Peay State University. Scott last taught at Essex Middle School and Browns River Middle School in Vermont where he also coached girls basketball. Coaching was a passion of his.
Known as Ashley to his friends, He was a multi-talented person as a professional photographer and a prolific songwriter of the Americana genre. He loved singing and sharing his songs.
He is survived by his wife Nancy P. Shamp and their children Aaron, Wyeth, Seth, and Caitlin as well as Scott, Laura, Don, and David from his first marriage.
For years he volunteered with his guitar at the Baird 5 pediatric ward at the UVM Medical Center. He was a supporter of Saint Jude Children's Research and Children's International. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children's Miracle Network at UVM or Saint Jude or Children International.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 73 Essex Way, Essex Vermont.
