On Monday afternoon, surrounded by loved ones, Scott Thomas Soderberg took his final breath and returned home to his Father in Heaven after quietly battling early-onset dementia. In true Scott-fashion he faced this challenge, along with others in his life, with positivity and without complaint. It was important to him that the people around him knew how much he loved them, even to his final breath. Scott loved BIG!
Scott was born in Provo, Utah on March 21, 1961, to Dr. Thomas Evans Soderberg and Shirley Gene Maughan Soderberg Stoddard, who raised him as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Scott loved His Savior and was excited when he received a call to serve a mission in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served faithfully and loved meeting people and sharing his testimony with them.
He had three brothers, Jeff (deceased 2023), Steven (deceased 1986), and David (deceased 2022); two half-sisters, Kristen and Kara, and seven step-sisters, Heather, Holli, Heidi, Haley, Hillary, Katie and Kim. Kristen lovingly cared for Scott through the last years of his life. He loved all of his siblings and enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. He and his brothers would go fishing, boating and golfing, and often traveled with their dad on work trips. He spent many hours with his sisters swimming in their backyard pool and tickling them relentlessly. Scott loved music and John Denver was a lifetime favorite. He loved being an uncle, especially playing with and teasing his nieces and nephews. Scott cared deeply for his extended family and gave a powerful tight hug to each person as he made his way around the room. Everyone remembers Scott's hugs, and how sometimes, it literally took their breath away!
In 1980, Scott graduated from East High School. He went on to do various jobs throughout his life, but his favorite occupation was working as a security guard. He worked in this capacity at the Salt Lake Airport, as well as being private security for Allied Universal. He also enjoyed working as an orderly at the LDS Hospital and treasured having the opportunity to work with President Russell M. Nelson, who was a cardiologist there at the time. These jobs suited his character as he cared for, and wanted to protect, those around him.
On July 21, 1990, Scott married Michele Christensen. They had two wonderful children, Tyler Scott and Tiffany Nicole, who were his whole world! They enjoyed playing games, video games, and watching movies with their dad; two of his favorites were Star Wars and The Pink Panther. His kids have fond memories of having Family Home Evening together, which included reading scriptures or enjoying a family game night. The special time with family made family vacations a treasure for Scott. A few of his favorites were going to Las Vegas to see Air Supply concerts, and Disneyland.
Scott was a superfan of all sports! He loved going to as many of the Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey games as he could. He kept every program and ticket stub, which went along with his cherished collection of signed jerseys and hockey sticks from various players throughout the years. His favorite football team of all time was the Dallas Cowboys and he was a devoted life-long fan. As much as he loved watching sports, he treasured talking sports with his son and never missed his games. Scott had an incredible ability to recite stats from almost any team or player, as long as it was between the years of 1970-2023.
People were so important to Scott, and he genuinely cared about everyone. He was blessed to have life-long friends. He treated everyone the same, and from deep in his soul he loved telling people about the strengths they had without feeling competition to the compliment. His happiness came from lifting others, and you could see it when you looked at him.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Ability Hospice Center (AHC), and Sandstone American Fork (SAF), with special thanks to McKella (AHC) and Smoke (SAF), for their tender and professional care to Scott as he transitioned home. They would also like to thank Lance and the entire team at Larkin Sunset Lawn, for the beautiful way in which they handled the preparations and services of Scott's burial.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn on 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, with a graveside service, open to the public, following at 2:00 p.m.

Because I am just hearing about Scotty´s passing now I´d also like to let the family know that Scott went out of his way to be helpful and kind to me and my family repeatedly! Once when Allan and I were going through the security line at the SL Airport, a treasure object that had been gifted to my husband when he was young was deemed unsafe and confiscated. Scott recognized us and picked up the object. Because we were not on social media, it took real effort on Scott´s part to chase down our phone number and call us. He insisted on returning the object to us personally, an object we never expected to see again! Scott also had a knack for knowing when I was shopping at Harmons. He would find me and spend time asking about my family and sharing what was going on in his life. His interest in others was real and he we all felt that. Regardless of where Scott worked, loving people seemed to be his real job!
