Scott Randall Standeford, 60, of Indianapolis and formerly of Monrovia, passed from this life while at home on Saturday, April 13, 2024, after reconciling relationships and bravely battling esophageal cancer that was diagnosed in November. He was born in Indianapolis on June 19, 1963, to George L. Standeford and the late Cora Sue (Chelf) Shoemaker.
The youngest of two sons, Scott graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1981, where he played football and was a member of the Boys Varsity Swim Team. While in school, he met the love of his life and voice of reason, Darlene Waltz. Enamored by her beauty, and a bit shy to pursue his interest in an upper classmate, he sought the help of Darlene's brother, who asked her to accompany Scott to homecoming and this marked the beginning of their journey. Entering their union of marriage on May 3, 1981, Scott bravely enlisted to serve his country in the United States Navy, where he served as a Seabee and acquired electrician skills. After receiving his honorable discharge in California, Scott and Darlene were on their second son when they returned home from active duty, and he secured employment with Big E Electric. A diligent provider who was tireless in punching the time clock, Scott eventually went into the construction industry, dedicating over 20 years of hard work to the Laborer's Union Local #120. Most recently overseeing the maintenance department for McMahon Truck Center, in Indianapolis.
Scott was above all a self-taught man and a hands-on dad. Always putting the children's needs first as they grew up, he got to attend as many sporting events as possible which took the family as far as Florida, Texas, California, and even Hawaii for the kids to play in games. Many memories were made at Holiday World along with traveling to Oklahoma to spend time with his mother. Engrained with lessons and values that his parents shared with him, he successfully passed these traits to the kids, teaching them to love with all their heart, serve faithfully, and selflessly sacrifice, just as he tried to himself. He enjoyed hosting and tailgating with family, friends, and players, barbequing on his Purdue train smoker for anyone around.
With a profound appreciation for music that was deeply embedded in his soul, despite never formally learning to read music, Scott had an innate ability to listen to a song and replicate it by ear. He actively participated in various bands over the years, including Thin Ice in Jr high school, the Middle of the Road Band, Blue River Band, Seven, and Rock Prophets. He brought life to every gathering and found immense satisfaction in bringing joy to others through his musical gift. He demonstrated unwavering dedication to his religious beliefs and maintained a humble demeanor, recognizing that he was not superior to others. With a large and loving spirit, his exceptional interpersonal skills allowed him to connect with individuals effortlessly, establishing a genuine interest in those around him. He consistently showed a willingness to assist those in need, even making personal sacrifices, such as using his last $5 to provide nourishment to a homeless man. Although his choices later in life caused pain, his ability to love and feel deeply remained undeniable. Above all, he took great pride in his family. Leaving this world all too soon, Scott leaves a legacy of light, love, and music. He will be forever missed.
Scott leaves behind his former wife, Darlene Waltz Standeford of Monrovia; children, Jason Standeford (Tabatha) of Plymouth, John Standeford (Rachel) of Monrovia, Jacob Standeford (Roxanne) of Plainfield, Jordan Standeford (Breanna) of Mooresville, Joseph Standeford (Levi) of Danville, IL, and Jessica Corbin (Chris) of Plainfield; father, George Standeford (wife Karen) of Stillman Valley, IL; brother, Jim Standeford (Misty) of Arizona; grandchildren, Owen, Isabella, Ann, Nellie, Coralynn, Jane, Nora, Elsie, Everett, Otto, Camden, Colson, Remi, and Crimson; companion Jennifer Broughton of Indianapolis; and fur babies, Lucky and Lulu.
