Scott Steffen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Scott Steffen, age 67, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his home in rural Cresco, Iowa.
A memorial celebration will be held from 3:00-6:00pm on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Heritage Event Center in Cresco with a special time to remember and honor Scott beginning at 6:00pm. This will be a casual time to share stories and memories, all are welcome to participate.
Scott D. Steffen was born on August 5, 1957, in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from Crestwood High School with the Class of 1976. Following high school, he worked for Malli Construction building pole sheds.
In 1977, he married Denise Hruska. Together they had two children: Nicholas Steffen and Elizabeth (Mark) Dickey and their son Nolan.
They began dairy farming for several years until Scott started working at Featherlite Manufacturing. He was given the name "Farmer" by all his work friends, which fit his dress code of always wearing bib overalls.
Scott loved farming, working with the land and caring for the animals. He enjoyed his walks around the set aside acres with his wife, dog and cat. Collecting antiques was another passion of his. This grew into becoming a "junk" collector, displaying all his treasures around the farm. He also spent lots of time helping others cleanup their piles of miscellaneous items along with cleaning up Mother Nature at the same time. Taking apart his special "finds" was also a part of his adventures. He cherished the time with his good friend Al, loading these treasures and cutting steel together. Occasionally he found time to go bowling with his friends; and became quite good at it.
Scott and Denise enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit their good friend Lynn at her condo next to the ocean. They enjoyed walks on the beach and even went parasailing.
Scott was happy to help his Amish friends, giving them rides to town and taking them wherever they needed to travel.
He will truly be missed and always loved.
