Scott Strobel Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 19, 2025.
Scott was born on August 21, 1964, to Vernon and Phyllis VerStraten Strobel in Toledo, Ohio. He married Cindy Wilson on February 20, 1988, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Scott was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Monroe, Michigan. After graduation, he attended Eastern Michigan University, as well as Monroe Community College, before enlisting in the U.S. Army in October 1985. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty in July 1991, Scott continued his military service via the U.S. Army National Guard until May 1993. He was a member of the 77th Army Band while on active duty, later serving with the 145th Army National Guard Band. Scott earned several awards including the Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Defense Service Medal, M-16 Rifle Sharpshooter Award, and Army Commendation Medal. Upon the conclusion of his military service, Scott enrolled at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in May 1994.
Scott's professional career as a music educator included positions at Walters, Oklahoma, as well as Quanah, Decatur, Wellington, Clarendon, Bowie, and Ropesville, Texas. He was a very talented saxophonist, took great pride in his work, and was always willing to help his students of all ages become better musicians. Aside from music, he was an avid lover of war movies and BBQ, both of which he consumed in mass quantities. However, beyond all this, Scott was a loving husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend.
Scott is survived by his wife Cindy Strobel of Ropesville, Texas; son Brett Strobel of Canyon, Texas; sister Lynn Sharpe of Monroe, Michigan; sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Dave Rennie of Taylor, Michigan; sister and brother-in-law Jeannie and Rob Traviss of Monroe, Michigan; and stepfather Dale Dashner of Monroe, Michigan. Scott is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Lydia Wilson of Burleson, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Strobel and Phyllis Dashner.
He passed away at home on Monday, March 17, 2025 at the age of 60.
