Scott Widak Obituary
Scott’s life story was that of rising above one’s limitations, making the most of each day, enjoying the simple blessings in life, and consistently expressing gratitude and kindness to those around you. Scott was incredibly loving to all that knew him. He adored “his best Mother in the world” with all his heart. Having been born with Down Syndrome, Scott faced an array of challenges yet he always had a warm smile to share or kind words for a family member or friend. He was complimentary beyond compare and one would always feel better after having been in his presence.
Scott’s story became an internet sensation and he was blessed with thousands of pieces of mail and gifts from all corners of the world; encouraging him during his most difficult days. Major media outlets such as CBS, Huffington Post, and Time headlined Scott’s story as an affirmation that there is a tremendous amount of good in the world in which we live and that random acts of kindness are plentiful. Scott was the beloved and cherished son of Statia Widak and the late Stanley Widak, Sr. Scott will be forever remembered by his devoted brothers and sisters; Stanley Widak Jr. along with his fiancée, Karen Kunigenas, Steven Widak, Susan Widak, and Sherry Widak, all of Plainville, MA, and Sharlene Smith along with her husband, Scott Smith, of Norton, MA, beloved nieces and nephews, Lindsey, Jody, Sean, Samuel, Tony, Anya, Ian, Joseph, Andrew, Steven, Stephanie, Stanley, and Jake; treasured great-niece, Shaylyn; dedicated life-long friends, Chuck and Stephen; and countless dear aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors whom were blessed to have known him.
Scott touched the lives of many people with his genuine kindness and love of a great time and to that we ask that you join us in a funeral from Sperry & McHoul Funeral, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass in celebration of Scott's life in St. Martha Parish, 227 South Street, Plainville at 10:30 a.m. A committal service will follow in Shepardville Cemetery, corner of Mirimichi Street and Route 152 (Taunton Ave.), Plainville.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation Wednesday, July 11, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sperry McHoul Funeral Home.

I will always cherish my memories of Scottie. We had a great time together playing mini golf, riding go-carts, and playing pool. He made quite an impression on everyone he met wherever he went, from waitresses to doctors. Who will remind me when my registration is up on my car now!? Our thought's and Prayer's to you all at this somber time in your life. I was Scott's bus driver for a few year's and I have a great story of one of the day's I was unable to drive the bus, my husband Bob drove for me instead. Well, when he stopped to pick up Scott, Scott was NOT getting on that bus until Mrs. Skinner came back. The next day he told me that I needed to call him and let him know if I wasn't going to be there. He was a burst of sunshine then and he will be a bigger burst now. God rest his soul. I am carrying a heavy heart for the loss of classmate, townie, and the happiest man I ever knew. My mom (Elsie Skinner) would pick Scottie up on the bus and he would put a smile on your face even if you did not want to smile. He shared his happiness with all of us. My favorite memory is Scotty chasing me around Aunties to tickle me when I was about 8 and he was so fast all I could do was run to lock myself in the bathroom. Though I have to say every bit of time spent with Scotty was a good time and memorable. He was always fun to be around and such a joker. God gave our family the the best gift of all, he gave us Scotty. We will miss him and never forget what a blessing it was to have had him in our lives.
