Christopher Shane Steele, age 48, of Cedar Bluff, VA passed away unexpectedly in his home on January 11, 2023.
Shane is survived by his wife, Kim Steele. He is also survived by his daughter Morgan Brooke Cunningham and husband J. Barrett Cunningham III of Jonesborough, TN and son Logan Chandler Steele, Lauren Stewart, and grandson Easton James Steele of Cedar Bluff, VA. Shane is also survived by his 3 stepchildren Sydney Altizer, Caleb Altizer, and Kendra Broussard. He is survived by his mother Mary Ruth Steele, sister LaRhonda Lindsey and husband York Lindsey, and brother Todd Steele. Shane is preceded in death by his father, William "Bill" Steele, Jr.
Shane was born at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC on August 23, 1974, the son of the late William "Bill" Steele, Jr and Mary Ruth Steele. Shane graduated from Richlands High School in 1992.
Shane worked more than 25 years at Holston Valley Distributing Company and Blue Ridge Beverage, and always strived to provide for his family. In April 2021, he started his own lawn care business while working part-time at UPS. Recently Shane accepted a new position at UPS as a truck driver and was very excited about his new adventure. Through his lawn care business, he provided mentorship to many young men in the community demonstrating responsibility and a strong work ethic.
Shane served as President of the Richlands Football Parent's Club and was very supportive of the Blue Tornado football program. Shane was a proud supporter of Richlands Athletics, and especially loved watching his kids participate in the various local sports.
Shane never failed to participate in a family gathering, and proudly instigated the wrapping paper war at GMaw's house each Christmas. He always made time for a homecooked breakfast with his mom and family cookouts at his sister's. Shane loved going to Steeler's games, concerts, vacationing at a beach or lake, and mostly enjoyed spending time with family. Their house was always open to company, with friends and family flowing in and out.
Shane was extremely proud of his children and stepchildren, from their success in sports to their pursuit of education. He admired his daughter, Morgan, and her diligence for pursuing a career in pharmacy. Shane was always seen supporting his kids at school sporting events, and most notably seen cheering on his son Logan at the Richlands High School football games. Most importantly, he was proud of the strong character that each of his children had grown into. Shane's eyes lit up at the sight of his precious grandson, Easton, whom he loved immensely, and he was most proud seeing Logan become a loving father.
A quote by Tom Wolfe that Shane valued and exemplified throughout his life is "The only true possession you have in life is your character." Shane's character was defined by his humility, kindness, generosity, and fun-loving spirit.
One of Shane's desires for his children was the opportunity to obtain a college education; therefore, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to his son Logan's educational fund:
