Shannon Dee Atkinson 52, of Tulsa, Oklahoma peacefully passed surrounded by family on April 8, 2023.
Shannon was born Feb 12, 1971 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Janis Higgins and Kent Atkinson. Shannon led a happy active life filled with loving family, friends and many activities such as gymnastics, bowling, and Special Olympics. Shannon first started competing in Special Olympics while attending school in Jenks. After graduating from Jenks in 1990, she joined Team Tulsa, and continued competing every year until 2020, winning over 80 medals, hundreds of Ribbons and several trophy's.
Shannon joined Pathways in Tulsa after retiring from Arvest Bank downtown where She worked for over 20 years. Shannon was also a winner at the Black Jack tables. She knew how to play the game and never hesitated to to teach someone else how to play the game correctly, on one of her many trips to Las Vegas she even taught MC Hammer how to play.
If you knew Shannon you loved Shannon. She was kind, smart, independent, funny and loved everyone especially her family.
Shannon is survived by her parents, Janis Higgins and Kent Atkinson; brother, Steve Atkinson and husband Ted Kincaid, brother, Jeff Atkinson and wife Melissa, step-sisters, Theresa Mckee and husband Dennis; Michelle Brown and husband Jason; nephews, Brody Atkinson and Denton McKee; nieces, Peyton Atkinson, Bri McKee, Lorelei and Alyssa Vogler; several family members including aunts, uncles, and cousin's. She is proceeded in death by her step-father, Mike Higgins; maternal grandparents, Dewey and Lola Tennyson; paternal grandparents, Max and Catherine Atkinson.
A celebration of Shannon's life and reception will be held from 2:00pm-5:00pm, Friday, April 21, 2023 at Schaudt's Glenpool-Bixby Funeral Service, 1329 E. 151st St., Glenpool, Oklahoma 74033.
