Sharen Holbrook Spaulding, 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully at Sage Grove Assisted Living in Rigby, Idaho, the evening of October 2, 2025. She was blessed to be able to spend her last day with her dear husband and loved family members following her many hospitalizations.
Sharen was born October 24, 1943, the 4 th child of Melnot and Evelyn Holbrook in Afton, Wyoming, where the family lived for the next few years. Her family moved to Rigby, Idaho, where Sharen attended school and graduated from Rigby High School. Sharen married her high school sweetheart, Errol Spaulding, on June 7, 1961, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They spent most of their lives together in the home they built on their farm east of Ririe. Her greatest joy was her family!
Sharen and Errol were the parents of three sons: Ray, Randy, and Dennis. They also welcomed into their home LDS Indian Placement Program students, Peter, Webster, Von, and Billy. Errol’s nephews, Brett and Bruce, also became part of their family for a time. Yu, a Japanese exchange student, enjoyed the hospitality of the Spaulding home while he attended Ririe High School. Sharen did secretarial and accounting work early in their marriage for Kraft Foods in Ririe and in later years for Sun-Glo of Idaho in Rexburg. She loved to read and enjoyed performing in drama productions with friends in Ririe.
Sharen was a cheerful and pleasant companion. She and Errol enjoyed many rides, short excursions, and vacations on the Gold Wing or in their pickup camper. She was not, however, a fan of flying! She loved her boys unconditionally, taught them by example, and supported their dreams. She loved her grandmother role, visits from the “littles”, and watching with pride as each grew into remarkable young men and women.
Sharen is survived by her loving husband, Errol; her daughter-in-law, Hollie, Idaho Falls; her son, Randy, Phoenix, Az; her son, Dennis, (Shelley) Chelsea, SC; her sister, Coleen, Rigby; her brothers, Kent, (Jeanne) Coeur d’Alene, ID; Steven, (Dianna) Gainesville, GA; David, (Joyce), Ogden, UT; Greg (Wanda), Roseburg, OR; brother-in-law, John Hoggan, Idaho Falls; daughters-in-law, Wendy and Eileen; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Nicholas, Michael, Christopher, Brian, Alyssa, Lacey, Megan, Sean, Katrina, Sabrina, Scott, Amber and Becky; great-grandchildren, Callen, Colter, Isabella, Carter, Sebastion, Amelia, Olivia, and Miranda; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved “Aunt Sharen”.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant brother, Carl; her little sister, Evah Jean; her son, Ray; her granddaughter, Crystal; her brother-in-law, John Erickson; nieces, Jill and Treena Erickson, and Janenne, Wendy, and Chantell Hoggan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Ririe LDS Church.
