Sharon Ivy Chambless, affectionately known as Sharon and Mama Sharon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the age of 86 in Bowdon, Georgia. Born on March 24, 1938, in Norcross, Georgia, Sharon was a loving presence in the lives of all who knew her, bringing joy, kindness, and laughter wherever she went.
Sharon's greatest devotion was to her family and her many passions. With a gifted green thumb, she cultivated a garden as vibrant as her spirit, finding peace and fulfillment in tending to her yard. A woman of steadfast faith, she was a devoted member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, where she shared her warmth and generosity with her community.
Her love for her family was boundless. She is survived by her sons, Ricky Mark Major and Christopher Chambless, as well as her beloved granddaughters: Anita Eland Marinelli, Amanda Major, Candace Roberts, Isobel Chambless, Elowen Chambless, and Imogen Chambless. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Cybil Buell and Ezra Reed, whose lives she touched with love and cherished memories.
Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, R. Jack Major and Robert Chambless, as well as her parents, Hugh and Mary Brown Ivy, her sister, Mildred Pruitt, and her dear daughter, Barbara Sutton.
A celebration of Sharon's life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory, with Rev. Mike Fiddler officiating. Family and friends will gather to share memories and honor her legacy. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at H.G. Wright Cemetery in Norcross, Georgia. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
As we say goodbye, let us remember Sharon not with sorrow, but with gratitude-for the love she gave so freely, the joy she brought into our lives, and the lasting imprint of her kindness. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
