Sharon McDonald Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 27, 2025.
Sharon Fromme McDonald, 83, died peacefully in her sleep due to complications related to cancer, in the company of her two sons, during the early morning hours of Monday, July 21st 2025 at her home in Richfield, Minnesota. Born in 1942 in Bethel, Delaware, she was the only daughter of Margurite and Turp Garrett, and sister to Wallace and William. She is survived by her two doting sons, Steven K. Fromme 55 and Ronald C. Fromme 57, along with her three beloved grandsons, Christopher Fromme 26, John Werner 36, and Robin Schott 15. Her cherished memory is also carried by inspirational daughter in-law Kari Styles 53, and almost family member Marissa Wierbicki 26. Sharon quickly took to a passion for helping others and began studying nursing at the University of Delaware, followed by Wayne State and then the University of Michigan. She achieved her PhD in nursing and touched many lives with the art of healing, both in community health and clinical research. A woman of gentle words, she lead by strong example. She was always there to help and assist her friends, family, and community in any way possible. She was never one to complain, and always looked to the bright side of life. Always a lover of art and music, in her later years she developed a taste for travel, going on safari, climbing a mountain, exploring pyramids, and conquering glaciers. She walked on all seven continents, and saw masterpieces by the great artists in their native countries. Sharon retired from nursing to Minneapolis, Minnesota in the 1990's. She was a well-known philanthropist of local music and arts. The things she would most likely share with you if you met her are: The trip she took with Chris to Alaska, playing Skip-Bo with John, the trip she took to Glacier Park with Steven, the book Kari just finished writing, talking basketball with Robin, or the cookies Ron makes for her. She loved her drumming circle and dominos friends that supported her, and kept her spirits up. Sharon has requested a small family internment. A memorial service is planned for August 9th, 11:00am at Gramercy Park Co-operative.
