Sharon Ann McElroy Obituary
Sharon Ann McElroy, 72, entered eternal life on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Hospice Inpatient care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on May 11, 1952, to the late Chabonda and Kaye McElroy (Hall) in Louisville, Kentucky.
Sharon was a dedicated and passionate educator. She earned her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education from the College of the Ozarks and later achieved her master's degree in Education from Indiana University Southeast. Throughout her distinguished career, Sharon taught at various institutions, including Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Kentucky, Saint Martin's in San Antonio, Texas, Graceland Christian School in New Albany, Indiana, and East Washington School Corporation.
Her commitment to education and her students was recognized through the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. Sharon also served in multiple roles with the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc., including as President-Elect. She was an active member of the National Science Teachers Association and contributed significantly to junior high and middle school educational literature through her many publications.
Sharon's professional affiliations were numerous, reflecting her dedication to the field of education. She was a member of the Indiana Academy of Science, the National Middle Level Science Teachers Association, the National Educator Association, the Indiana State Teachers Association, and the East Washington Classroom Teachers Association.
Sharon's legacy will be remembered by her colleagues, students, and all who were fortunate to know her. She leaves behind a lasting impact on the world of education and science teaching.
Sharon was preceded in death by her Brother, Ken McElroy and by her sister, Carolyn Armfield.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary Ann McElroy of Martinsville, Indiana, her nieces, Christi Steller (Rob) of Crestwood, Kentucky, Leah Armfield (Wes) of Prospect, Kentucky, her great nephew, Carter Steller of Crestwood and her great niece, Rylan Vance of Prospect.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Garr Funeral Home (7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) with interment to follow at Abundant Life Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
