Sharon Halverson Nelson

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Sharon Halverson Nelson passed away on August 29, 2022 from causes related to age. She was born in Ogden, Utah to Charles Alton Halverson and Bernice Clark on July 31, 1931.

 

She grew up in Ogden and attended Ogden High School, Weber College and Utah State University, obtaining an MBA from Utah State while working full time.

 

Sharon met the love of her life after she fell off a hayride wagon and her eventual husband was there to dust her off, and the rest in history. She has been happily married to Ray B Nelson for the last 69 years - just 3 months short of 70. They were married in temple, and she has been an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

 

Sharon was a teacher and taught Special Education for elementary students in the Weber County School District. She loved to help and teach students, as well as relatives and neighborhood kids. She was influential in the lives of many young people. She crossed paths with many of her students and enjoyed seeing their successes.

 

Sharon was involved on the state level serving in various positions and provided consulting to the Utah State Developmental Center in American Fork where her firstborn daughter Karen lives.

 

Sharon had many hobbies including genealogy, sudoku, puzzles, reading, trivia, church history, and playing the piano. She was a member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers for many, many years and loved those associations.

 

She also enjoyed going to lunch or taking trips with her daughter Susan and her sister Diana Speechly. Favorites included plays on Broadway and well as road trips on the Pacific Coast Highway and Canada. She also enjoyed the shows in Las Vegas and at Tuacahn in St George.

 

Trips to Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge happened but could not replace the annual trip to Yellowstone. That trip was not negotiable. It’s just something that was done every year for the last 70 years. Sharon was an adventurous person and loved getting up early to see wildlife in Yellowstone as well as the boat rides across Yellowstone Lake usually with whitecaps to do some old fashion camping and fishing from a tent on the hard ground.

 

She loved to travel and took several cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Panama Canal. She traveled through Europe and the Middle East and even once drove the Alaska Highway. She really enjoyed living in Tahiti for a month while her husband worked on the Temple.

 

She is survived by her husband, Ray and children, Karen, Doug and Mark. She was preceded in death by her son, Scott and her daughter, Susan.

 

Sharon left an indelible mark on many people’s lives and will be sorely missed.

 

Friends may visit with family on Friday, September 2nd from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Ogden, UT

 

Family and close friends are invited to the Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. on Saturday, September 3rd at 10:15 a.m. to say a final goodbye to Sharon and have a family prayer.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 S. Washington Blvd., Ogden at 11 a.m.
