Sharon Grooms Smith, fondly known as Sherry, departed this life on December 3, 2025, at her residence, under the loving care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Born on September 18, 1956, in Reidsville, Georgia, her life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
As a devoted homemaker, Sherry embraced the art of nurturing her family with unparalleled warmth and joy. She found her greatest delight in celebrating the holidays, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas, where her vivacious spirit and outgoing nature brought an infectious cheer to every gathering. It was during these festive occasions that her wit and playful humor shone most brightly, creating lasting memories that will echo in the hearts of her loved ones.
Sherry's vibrant personality drew many to her, as she possessed an innate ability to make every encounter feel special. Her passions were as diverse as the blooms in her beloved garden; she thrived in the act of planting flowers, found excitement in thrift shopping, and took great pleasure in the sun-kissed sands of the beach. Not to be overlooked, her love for her appearance, including her hair and nails, spoke to her fun, girly disposition, which endeared her to those around her.
An inseparable force within her family, Sherry leaves behind her husband, DJ Smith, daughter, Camille Durrence (Dalton), her cherished grandchildren, Katelynn Blanton, Trey Blanton (Alexis), along with her great granddaughters, Lainey Smith, Millie Blanton and a special sister that she loved to spend time with, Pam McCord. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Sherry is preceded in death by her father, Wallace Grooms, mother, Betty Sue McKenzie and her brother, Wallace "Wally" Grooms.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Sherry at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm.
