Sharon Sydney Stringham, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025 in the city of Rochester, Washington.
Sharon was born on April 20, 1944 in the town of Deadwood, South Dakota, to Parents Sydney and Elsie Walker. She attended the local grade school and graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1961.
On June 3, 1961, Sharon married Lee Thomas VanAusdal in Butte, Montana. Together they had four children; Thomas VanAusdal of Saint George, Utah, Tammy Empey of Logandale, Nevada, Terry VanAusdal of Bever Creek, Ohio, and Tracy Walker of Rochester, Washington. Sharon was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints on July 16, 1961 and was sealed to her husband, Tom in the Salt Lake City temple on June 1, 1964. During her years, she served many church callings faithfully.
Sharon and her family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1966 and spent many years raising their children as well as becoming a registered and licensed nurse. Working for most of that career as an OB nurse, caring for newborns and their mothers. She was awarded OB Nurse of the Year for the state of Neveda in 1979 and 1987. She also went on the win Department Manager of the year at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in 1989 and 1990. Her love of learning inspired her to continue her education in the field as well, before moving with her family to Huntsville, Utah in the mid 1990’s.
Sharon and Thomas were divorced in May of 2004, later meeting her second husband, Lynn Stringham, and marrying him on February 14, 2007. Sharon and Lynn were later sealed in the Ogden Utah Temple. They lived in Huntsville together until Lynn died in 2015. Sharon spent her remaining years living near and with her Children in Utah, Nevada, and Washington.
Sharon is survived by her children, Thomas, Tammy, Terry, and Tracy; her siblings Diana Crawford and John Walker; 16 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Thomas VanAusdal; her second husband, Lynn Stringham and brothers Eugene and James Walker.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
