Sharon Kay Wagner

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at an 11:00 am Liturgy of the Word in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette for Sharon Kay Wagner, age 66, who passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in Lafayette.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will continue on Saturday morning from 9:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 6:30 pm in the funeral home led by the Ladies Altar Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Deacon Kyle Faber will officiate at the services.
A Graveside Service will he held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10:00 am, in Blake Cemetery, 22311 FM 583, Rising Star, TX 76471, next to her parents, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early, Texas. Pastor Ron Keener will officiate.
Survivors include her children, Melissa Kay Bertoldi and her husband, Tony, and Thomas M. Wagner; her grandson, Giovanni Bertoldi; her brother, Stacy R. Hale and his wife, Brenda; her beloved cat Harley; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Gilbert "Bill" Hale and Mary Juanita Chick Hale; her paternal grandparents, Charlie Leonard & Nettie Elizabeth Pace Hale; her maternal grandparents, Charles Edgar "Ed" and Evelyn Marie Ward Chick; her canine companions, Dixie and Tibby; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Sharon Kay Wagner, born on June 25, 1958, to Bill and Juanita Hale, was a native of Midland, TX, where she spent her early years and completed her high school education. In her early 20s, Sharon moved to Roswell, NM, where she began raising her family while pursuing higher education. She later relocated to Thibodaux, LA, where she earned her bachelor's degree from Nicholls State University. During this time, she became an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Thibodaux.
In 1997, Sharon moved to Lafayette, LA, where she found her true calling as a City Planner with Lafayette Consolidated Government. She joined the development planning team for the City of Lafayette in 1998, forming lasting bonds with colleagues who became like family to her. She retired on October 7, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to her community and love for the city she called home.
Sharon had a deep love for her family, her cat Harley, and the natural beauty of her garden, where she enjoyed tending to flowers and watching birds. She was an avid volunteer, giving her time to local events such as Downtown Alive!, Festival International, and Rhythms on the River.
A devoted mother, sister, and friend, Sharon was the heart of her family. She took joy in bringing everyone together for holidays, family gatherings, and celebrations, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever. She also found special meaning in the daily visits of a dragonfly at her kitchen window, a symbol of peace and presence in her life. To her loved ones, the dragonfly will forever symbolize Sharon's grace, strength, and the vibrant spirit she brought to all who knew her. As we remember her, may we carry the spirit of the dragonfly, embracing life's moments with the same grace that Sharon embodied.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Wagner, Stacy Hale, Tony Bertoldi, Giovanni Bertoldi, Jim Parker, Frank Thibeaux, Drake Herrick, Brad Duhon, and Cory Comeaux.
