Shauna Deakin Estep peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father in the presence of her husband and children on Thursday, December 19th, 2024. Shauna is fondly remembered as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, entrepreneur, painter, candy-maker, friend and neighbor.

The daughter of Effie Johnson and Bert Deakin, Shauna was born on October 2nd, 1940 in Brigham City and then grew up in Fielding, Utah where she was raised by her grandmother Effie Busenbark Johnson. It was there her love of sweets and baking began, as Grandma Johnson taught her to make lemon cakes with white frosting.

Star-struck by the handsome man who used to drive his ’48 Ford in Fielding, Shauna married Lowell Jay Estep on July 27, 1956. Following the reception, Lowell wheeled her around town in a wheelbarrow, proud to show off his beautiful wife. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple on July 28th, 1998. They were blessed with 68 amazing years of marriage and love together and taught their children that your spouse is your best friend. Shauna was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Shauna and Lowell always found a way to have fun together and with their family. Shauna was a loving mother who raised three amazing children – Lola, Debra, and Wes. She worked hard to give them the best and more than she had growing up. Together they camped, snowmobiled and fished. With Lowell, Shauna hosted endless parties and adventures – from boating to Disney vacations – for children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In mid-life, she roamed the country with Lowell on their Honda motorcycle. Shauna’s laugh could be heard across town.

Shauna was hard-working, entrepreneurial, and athletic. As a young woman, Shauna opened up a hair salon, the Shearing Shack, with her partner Teri Holmgren. You could find her laughing with cherished friends while sipping on Diet Coke or Tab throughout the day. We're certain her lungs were coated with a thick layer of hairspray from her days at the beauty shop. She also had a realty license with Bess Realty. She was a competitive softball player for the Reese’s 66ers. Her grandkids all enjoyed playing golf with her, as Grandma played barefoot! She won several Skyway tournaments. Later in life, Shauna served a mission along with Lowell for the LDS Church in Saint George, Utah. During that time, she gained a deep knowledge of genealogy that she shared with many friends and family.

Shauna was an extraordinary grandmother. She cherished her grandchildren, making each of them feel special and loved. She made Christmas time magical, she planned and carried out family vacations that are cherished to this day. Many root beer float parties were held on her kitchen floor with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and you can guarantee no one left grandma's house hungry. Her grandchildren will always remember their grandma for these things, and for her love of Arizona oranges, Disney trips, tree trimming advice (a.k.a. cut it down), her friendships and travel buddies, and going to visit her at “the far-away house” in Saint George, Utah and overhearing her long and love-filled conversations with her sister and closest friend, JoAnn. And none can forget her Christmas penoche candy recipe, taught to her by her mother-in-law, Effie Estep, that became a staple of Shauna’s holiday generosity to friends and family.

We are grateful to the staff of Birch Creek Assisted Living for their exceptional compassionate care and also to the Hospice team for their kind, tender, compassionate care in the final days of her life.

Shauna left a lasting legacy in the form of a large and loving family. She is survived by her husband, Lowell Jay Estep, two of her three children, Lola (Craig) Garbanati and Wes (Carol) Estep. She is survived by eight grandchildren – Josh (Sara) Garbanati, Cena (Van) Smith, Micah (Stefanie) Garbanati, Whit (Tiffani) Maxfield, Charli (Dustin) Skinner, Alisha (Kip) Jackson, Colton (Payton) Cornwall, and Logan (Josie) Cornwall, all happily married to loving spouses. She had 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, James and Effie Estep, her beloved daughter, Debra (Kevin) Estep Maxfield and her sisters JoAnn Schneiter, Nedra Poulos, and brother Bert Deakin Jr.
