Sheila Marie Piscetta, 73, Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Nurse.
Sheila Piscetta, 73, of Oradell, N.J., passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025. Born and raised in Stamford, Conn., Sheila was one of five children. She attended Georgetown University, earning her nursing degree and beginning a lifelong career devoted to caring for others. She began as an emergency room nurse before returning to school to become a school nurse at Ridgefield Park High School - all while raising four children after the passing of her husband, Thomas, who died of cancer when their children were 4, 8, 10, and 12. Determined to give her children stability and opportunity, she balanced work, study, and motherhood with remarkable strength and grace.
Each summer, she served as camp nurse at Camp Acorn, supporting children with disabilities, and was always first to respond when someone was in need - sitting with the sick, accompanying friends through cancer treatments, and giving her time and compassion freely. Her kindness and sense of duty touched countless lives. Fifteen years ago, Sheila suffered a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed from the neck down. With indomitable spirit, she fought through rehabilitation and returned to work as a school nurse. Her courage inspired everyone who knew her. She retired in 2018 after decades of service.
Above all, Sheila was a devoted mother and grandmother. After losing her husband, she raised her four children alone, instilling resilience, compassion, and hard work. Each built families of their own, her greatest pride and joy. She traveled often - to New Jersey, Wyoming, and California - to visit them, never letting physical challenges keep her away. An intelligent, curious woman, Sheila was a voracious reader with a love for James Patterson novels and true-crime stories. A phenomenal cook, she brought comfort, connection, and her famous baked clams to everyone around her table.
She is survived by her 4 children, Heather, Erin, Joseph, and Brian; 7 grandchildren; and 3 siblings, Maureen, Tom, and Anne.
A wake will be held Friday, October 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Volk Leber Funeral Home, Oradell. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 25, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 300 Elm Street, Oradell. Burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mae House, a cause close to Sheila's heart, at maehouse.org/donate-now.
